The Black Lady of the Back Walk
The Black Lady – a ghostly nun - prowls the Back Walk, the leafy pathway that circles the Holy Rude graveyard, following the line of the defensive Burgh Wall, which once protected Stirling Castle and the Old Town from attack and invasion...during the War of Independence, and by Roundheads, Covenanters and Jacobites.
She seeks union with her secret lover – a Priest, or so the story goes. So steeped in sin is she that her very gaze brings death before the dawn to any who catch her eye on that lonely lane.
That’s what I call a nasty habit...!
