Ladies' Hill, Auld Kirkyard
According to tradition the Ladies' Hill got its name as a result of aristocratic damsels from the Castle gathering here to watch their men-folk engaging in courtly blood-sports - duelling, jousting and suchlike - in the valley below.
Not all visitors were so genteel.
According to local legend this is where the early 19th-century lay preacher, Alick Lyon, is said to have wrestled with the Devil himself - after being thrown out of a tavern for lecturing the resident dipsomaniacs on the evils of the 'Demon Drink'.
We're very fond of dramatic irony in our taller tales! Had you noticed?
